About the Role

Internal promotion has created an opening for Birchwood Construction’s Controller position. The role will be charged with taking the company to the next level of financial maturity. While ensuring day-to-day accounting tasks are efficiently executed with the help of staff, the Controller will be responsible for reducing costs, enhancing revenue, and implementing quality standards. The Controller position will be a forward leaning individual looking out the windshield to analyze the road and set the direction. The role will encompass relationship building across the company as well as with vendors and homeowners.

Requirements

What we can expect from you:

  • Responsible for overall accounting operations for the organization.

  • Demonstrate strategic thinking in planning for the organizations short-term and long-term financial future.

  • Assist management with important financial decisions.

  • Prepare financial documents such as business reports, financial forecasts and statements to understand the financial state of business.

  • Responsible for ensuring systems of internal controls are in place to safeguard the organization’s assets.

  • Monitor company’s financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs.

  • Prepare and maintain cash management system to maximize returns and limit risk.

  • Facilitate and act as primary for banking and accounting relationships.

  • Ensure appropriate insurance is in place and support annual reviews/audits

  • Understand how to maximize profits and find new expansion areas.

  • Participate in key initiatives and strategies to continually improve the quality and level of services provided.

  • Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors and the preparation of the annual financial statements, tax filings, and other regulatory reporting.

  • Develop a formal budget and coordinate budgeting process.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and performance feedback for team members.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required. CPA preferred.

  • 5+ years of accounting experience.

  • Excellent communication, listening, leadership, and management skills.

  • Strong organizational skills to effectively deal with multiple tasks.

  • Detail oriented, with strong analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Must be able to effectively work closely with staff and peers.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • Knowledge of Sage software.

  • Strong proven track record in job costing.
