We spend our days building homes. But some of the projects we're most proud of don't have blueprints.

This spring, we planted the Birchwood Community Garden, a space created for one reason: to give back to the people who make Birchwood what it is.

As grocery prices continue to rise, we wanted to do something practical that could make life a little easier for our team and their families. Throughout the growing season, our team is invited to stop by, pick fresh produce, and take home whatever their family can use. It's a simple idea, but sometimes the simplest ideas have the biggest impact.

More Than Fresh Produce

The garden isn't just about tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, or herbs. It's another way we can take care of our people. We believe a great workplace is built on more than paychecks and projects. It's built on relationships, trust, and looking out for one another. Whether it's sharing a meal, lending a hand, or sending someone home with fresh vegetables for dinner, those moments matter. They remind us that we're not just coworkers—we're family.

Growing Something Bigger

Construction is demanding work, and we know that what happens outside the jobsite matters just as much as what happens on it. Research has shown that gardening can reduce stress, encourage physical activity, improve mental well-being, and provide access to fresh, healthy food. While those benefits are certainly a bonus, they weren't the reason we planted the garden. We simply wanted to create something that reflects who we are, a company that believes people deserve to feel supported, appreciated, and cared for.

The Birchwood Community Garden is one small example of what People First. Always. looks like in action. It's the same philosophy that guides how we work with our clients, invest in our employees, and strengthen the communities where we live and build. We're proud of the homes we build throughout Northern Michigan. But we're even prouder of the people who build them.
